In the latest news regarding the company, its developer site has become unavailable for software engineers because a hacker had attempted to steal personal information from there. This was revealed by the company itself. The website was taken offline by the company on July 18th. This particular website is used by programmers for writing applications for Macs, iPhones and other products of the Cupertino based firm. The company posted a statement on the internet, in which it announced that the site had been taken offline to fix the issue.
Delays could be faced by developers who utilize the website for documentation, engineering information and software downloads in order to introduce their own products. Some of the information that?s stored on the website remains encrypted. However, the company hasn?t been able to determine as yet whether mailing addresses, names or email addresses may have been accessed by the hacker. App developer Kwestr, which is based in Beijing, commented on the issue. Its chief executive officer, Frank Yu said that for developers it could be a serious loss of trust as the partners have been breached in a hacking attempt. For keeping these fears at bay, Apple has given a good response.
The company said that for those users whose accounts were about to expire during the days the website is offline, it would extend the membership. The iPhone maker also stated that it was doing a complete haul of its developer systems in order to prevent a security threat like this from occurring all over again. Cui Tong, an iOS developer based in Beijing said that this event was evidence of the fact that the personal information and the developer account of people could have been leaked. He added that he was hoping that the California based firm would be spending more resources and time on ensuring that the private information of users remains safe.
In May, the Pentagon had approved the devices of Apple Inc. for use on its own networks. This had been approval for the use of government-issued products of Apple that were based on the iOS 6 mobile platform. In regard to military sales, some products of BlackBerry and Samsung have also received approval. The iPhone maker had declared at that time that this approval boasted the company?s commitment to provide a secure platform for both enterprise and government users of the devices.
