SAS Notes for SAS?9 - 43833: Logs are created when the Java application is launched in SAS 9.3 on the Windows platform

When you run any Java based SAS 9.3 client application, such as SAS? Management Console, a log is written to the SASDeploymentWizard directory located in the user's profile directory. Here are some platform-specific examples:

  • On Windows XP systems:

    %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard\

    Example: C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard

  • On Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 2008 Server:

    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard\

    Example: C:\Users\userid\\AppData\Local\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard

  • On UNIX and z/OS systems:

    $HOME/.SASAppData/SASDeploymentWizard

Here is an example of some of the logs that you might see and their format:
    em_date_time.log grsgeditor_date_time.log simstudio_date_time.log sasmc_date_time.log
If no errors occur when the application is run, the log file that is created is very small. If there are problems using the application, these logs are invaluable for troubleshooting the issue. Space should not be an issue with these logs. However, if you need to regain space, you can remove them if there are no known problems.

IMPORTANT: Do not remove any of the other files that exist in these directories (Examples: deploywiz.log, sdwprefs.txt, sdw.log, and sdm.log). They are used by the SAS installations and to diagnose SAS installation and upgrade problems.

For additional SAS log information about the Windows platform, see Note 42646: "Troubleshooting the SAS? 9.3 installation process in a Windows operating environment."
